Handheld GPS receivers operate primarily on standard USB Mass Storage (UMS) protocol endpoints with 480 Mbps high-speed physical links. The internal storage architecture separates base system firmware from user track data and downloadable topographic layers.

Physical Cable Requirements

Use shielded 4-conductor USB cables containing dedicated D+ and D- lines. Power-only charging cables lack data lines and will fail to establish mass storage handshakes in desktop software suites.
